Support Center: Stress and Weight

Chronic stress and the hormone, cortisol, can slow your metabolism and make dieting difficult.

People experiencing chronic stress tend to crave more fatty, salty and sugary foods, which lead to increased weight gain.

Prolonged stress can alter your blood sugar levels and cause conditions like hyperglycemia, which can ultimately lead to diabetes. Higher levels of stress are linked to greater levels of abdominal fat, which is linked with greater health risks than fat stored in other areas of the body.

...increased levels of cortisol can make you crave unhealthy food, and often cause you to eat more than you usually do.
