Support Center: Behavior Modification for Weight Loss
Behavior modification is a treatment approach which replaces undesirable behaviors with more desirable ones through positive or negative reinforcement. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you identify sabotaging thinking and helps you to effectively respond to it, so that you can start to behave in better ways
This is a step towards changing your habits.
For weight loss, CBT can help you learn the difference between hunger and the desire to eat. One is a need, the other is a want. Habits are formed by repetition; including eating habits. But, it takes time to let new thinking settle in and to become effective at changing behaviors. Habits are difficult to break, and to lose weight, one must replace old, bad habits with new, good habits.
- Practice your new habit (goal) through repetition.
- Repeat these actions so that they become a part of you, and eventually turn into a new habit.
- Make daily commitments, and do whatever it takes to meet them, even if you don't feel like it.
- If you succeed in resisting temptation the first time, it will be easier the next time, and so on.
- You can succeed on any "diet" as long as you have the right mindset-CBT can do just this for you.
