Very Low Calorie Diet (VLCD)

Our VLCD patients visit Dr. Terlinsky on a weekly basis for frequent health monitoring to ensure patient safety. Once per month, the patient on the VLCD is required to attain blood test results for further safety monitoring. Patients will receive meal replacements (shakes and bars in a variety of flavors) in order to produce rapid weight loss.  Dr. Terlinsky reviews progress at every visit.

Is the VLCD right for you?

Due to the closely-controlled caloric intake of the VLCD, it is not appropriate for everyone. To qualify, you must be in relatively good health, have a BMI of 35 or greater, and demonstrate motivation to adhere to the diet.

What to expect

After determining candidacy for the VLCD, the patient will receive an individualized diet program consisting of about 800 calories. After several weeks, this amount may be slightly increased, depending on patient acceptability. Following acceptable weight loss, you will be educated about incorporating small amounts of food into your daily menu plan. With this knowledge, you will progress towards maintaining your healthy weight.
